Though its not a good idea to shave your golden retrievers hair some owners are desperate for ways to keep their pups hair shorter in hot humid weather. Usually the hair is trimmed to about one or two inches in length and some feathering is left on your dogs legs and the tail is trimmed but left long. Using your straight edge shears make a vertical cut perpendicular to the table the total length of the hock leaving the hair length at least 34 to 1 long at the back of the hock as an end result.
